Eau Thermale Avène Eczema workshop @ The Gardens Hotel, Mid Valley

I have learnt some basic knowledge about eczema in my course. However, I did not know how it bring negative impacts to daily lives of those affected, until I attended eczema educational workshop organized by Eau Thermale Avène in partnership with Watsons Malaysia at The Gardens Hotel, Mid Valley. For your information, eczema is a chronic inflammation of the skin that becomes extremely itchy and inflamed causing redness and swelling. It can affect infants, children and even adults. Dryness and itchiness of skin negatively influence their daily lives.

Eau Thermale Avène Eczema workshop aims to educate consumers on understanding eczema, methods to manage it, emollient application steps using Avène emollient cream and alternative methods to scratching. A lot of mothers with their children and those who concern with eczema had attended the workshop to understand more about eczema. It has been a long time since I last attended a medical educational workshop and I was anticipated about it. :)

The workshop started with a speech on atopic eczema by Dr. Leong Kin Fon, a Pediatric Dermatologist from General Hospital Kuala Lumpur. I still remembered vividly how a child suffered from eczema, in a video displayed in the speech. Scaly patches of dry dead skin were all around his whole body. He could not stop scratching his body due to unbearable itchiness. Dr Leong also taught us alternative methods to prevent scratching and manage atopic eczema among children effectively.

As I mentioned before, eczema can affect adults as well. Dr. Ch’ng Chin Chwen, a Dermatologist from University Malaya Medical Centre covered some facts and knowledge about the eczema for adults.

After that, Mr. Alexandre Giraudon (Avène ASEAN Marketing Manager) introduced us to Eau Thermale Avène and its range of skincare products for extremely dry skin and eczema skin in infants, children and adults. I have heard of Avène products before but I did not know the spring water is this amazing to help to relieve eczema problems. We watched videos of two severe eczema patients receiving treatment from Avène Hydrotherapy Centre in France. Healing effect of thermal spring water is really good and both of them have positive results after treatment. There is no more dryness, redness and itchiness on their skin. Besides, Mr. Alexandre also explained on the skin care regime for eczema patients using Avène Tolerance Extreme and Avene TriXèra range.

Three cute little girls were invited to be volunteers on stage to demonstrate methods of applying emollient cream. Usually kids do not like to apply cream on skin but the ‘ladybird’ method indeed is a good idea for them to apply cream themselves. This hands-on demonstration was conducted by Ms. Denise Goh. We also used the testers on table to experience the product ourselves.

It was a fruitful event to allow myself to know more about eczema. Thanks Eau Thermale Avène and Watsons Malaysia for organizing this workshop. :)
